Welcome Aboard!

Let’s go Sailing!

We are ready to help you get on the water and learn more about boating, safety, and seamanship.  If you are new to sailing, we’ll give you the knowledge and experience you need to become a confident sailor.  If you want to learn how to handle small or large powerboats, we’ll put you at the controls with a great instructor.  Our school is public, non-profit, and exceptional.  This is your community program, and we look forward to meeting you and getting underway!

Learn to sail

Beginning Sailing

We offer several options for students with little or no prior sailing experience to explore sailing for the first time. Learn to sail through dock-side lectures and hands-on experience at the OCC Waterfront Campus or at our partner facility at Marina Park.

US Sailing and US Powerboating

Boating Certifications

US SAILING offers certifications for both sailing and powerboating. Once earned, these certification credentials, in conjunction with your continuing experiences, are recognized by charter companies and sailing schools worldwide as the status of your accomplishments in the world of sailing.

Spectrum Sailing Camp

Cloudy skies and rain turned to sun and milder weather as eighteen young sailors ages 10 to 16 gathered excitedly at the OCC Waterfront Campus preparing to attend our first ever Spectrum Sailing Camp, a camp designed to provide sailing lessons for youth with autism.

Thank you to the Spectrum Sailing team: Scott Herman, Kim Guzman and Spectrum Sailing Sponsors Balboa Yacht Club Maritime Sciences & Seamanship Foundation, SPARK for Autism at UCLA, Fletcher Jones Mercedes, Harken, Harken Derm, Sail 22.

A special thank you to OCC Foundation supporter Whittier Trust Company for their youth sailing scholarship grant which allowed us to host the Spectrum Sailing Camp.

We had so much fun hosting the Spectrum Sailing Camp and we are already looking at dates for 2025.
