Coastal Navigation 2

Coastal Navigation 2In Coastal Navigation 2 you will build on the skills learned in Navigation 1. New topics will include current navigation (tides and tidal current calculation); set and drift, and the ability to offset their effect on your vessel. The second three weeks will cover GPS, navigation by rader, and passage planning on a chart plotter. The radar and chart plotter segments of the course will utilize simulations on the school’s computers. The use of a Deck Log and Navigational Publications will also be discussed. A limited number of GPS units will be available for practice in class. Students are welcome to bring their own GPS units.

Navigation requires a high degree of accuracy and confidence, so expect to practice your newly learned skills through homework assignments each week.
