Justin Dion, Director – Waterfront Campus
Dion joined OCC from the East Coast, bringing valuable experience as a maritime professional on United States Navy and government cargo vessels. Licensed as a U.S. Coast Guard Master 1600 GRT and Second Mate Unlimited, he brings practical experience from the maritime industry.
For over eight years, Dion served as a Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy, where he held positions as the Strike Warfare Officer on USS Howard (DDG 83), Navigator on USS Forrest Sherman (DDG 98) and as a case manager for the Navy Wounded Warrior program. Following his active duty service, he began sailing as a civilian mariner for Crowley Maritime Corporation, where he worked as 3rd Officer on board USNS Stockham (T-AK-3017).
Dion’s educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the United States Naval Academy and a master’s degree in business administration from Boston College.
Mette Segerblom, Sailing Program Coordinator
Mette grew up in Denmark and started sailing at the age of 12 in optimist dinghies and on her parent’s 31’ racer/cruiser, which she raced and cruised many miles around the islands of Denmark. Since coming to the United States in 1984, Mette has been involved with sailing as a racer and cruiser and she has worked in the marine industry as a sailing instructor and sailmaker. Prior to joining the School of Sailing & Seamanship as Sailing Program Coordinator in November 2000, she was the Race Administrator and Waterfront Director at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club for 12 years.
Mette is enjoying the opportunity to provide more sailing opportunities to the public and supporting the growth of programs at the Waterfront Campus. Mette enjoys cruising with her husband, walking the dog, travelling and spending time with her three adult sons.
