Beginning Sailing

We offer three classes to get you started sailing:

  • Beginning Sailing, for those who never sailed before or just have a little experience sailing with others.
  • Intermediate Lido, builds on Beginning Sailing skills with an emphasis on boat handling skills and sail trim.
  • Learn to Sail on a Harbor 20, for beginning students who prefer instruction on a more stable boat.

US SAILING offers certifications for both sailing and powerboating. Once earned, these certification credentials, in conjunction with your continuing experiences, are recognized by charter companies and sailing schools worldwide as the status of your accomplishments in the world of sailing.

Covid-19  Update

May 5, 2020

Dear OCC School of Sailing & Seamanship Community,

We are carefully monitoring the possible impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on our summer operations.  We are working with leadership at Orange Coast College to ensure the health and safety of our students, staff, and community.  OCC hopes to make decisions about in-person summer classes once the situation becomes clearer.  What we know for sure is that we will not be opening for classes until the California and Orange County stay-at-home orders are lifted.

The OCC School of Sailing & Seamanship team has developed a tentative plan to open June 22.  This plan includes offering on-the-water and classroom programs.  Updates and changes to our class schedule will be posted to our online schedule and registration website.  Please note that some of our classes will transition to smaller class sizes or family programs to facilitate social distancing guidelines.  We will also offer private lessons as before.  We are actively enrolling students and participants for this tentative season now.  OCC anticipates making decisions about running this plan by June 8.  We will keep everyone updated.

In the event that we are required to remain closed or cancel certain classes, affected participants will be contacted directly.  Course fees may be converted to a voucher, or refunded minus any transaction fees.

If modifications to our summer classes are required, we will be in direct contact with participants and the wider community.

In the meantime, please take time to rest and reset, while you take care of yourself and your community.
