Adult intermediate sailing courses build upon skills learned through prior classes and sailing experiences. Your practical knowledge will be applied and reinforced as you transition to heavier and more powerful sailboats.
Courses typically require you to be physically active while enjoying your time on the water.
What are skills considered to be intermediate?
For intermediate sailors ready to take their sailing skills to the next level, classes cover more advanced topics including sail trim and shape, wind shifts, heel control, crew overboard recovery, anchoring, and crew work. Learn to work with larger sails, winches, moorings, and advanced concepts under sail.
What certifications are available for intermediates?
For experienced sailors ready to pursue the US Sailing Basic Keelboat Certification. Course and evaluation topics for this extensive sailing course includes sail theory, docking, tacking, gybing, crew coordination, navigation rules and aids to navigation, anchoring, reefing, heaving to, and crew overboard recovery.
Your active participation in the classroom and on the water is essential for success. A passing grade on both the written and the practical test is required for certification. Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive your US SAILING Basic Keelboat Certification and be ready to move on to Basic Cruising 1.
